Simple white basic coveralls do not protect against hazardous materials & will likely be made of polypropylene. SMS material is a trilaminate construction providing high tensile strength & protection against fluid & particulates. Microporous laminated coveralls will provide a superior level of protection with enhanced tensile strength, barrier protection & breathability.
There are a number of different seam techniques that are used in the manufacture of protective coveralls depending on the level of protection the coverall provides.
Serged Seam – Widely used for on limited use clothing for dry particulate protection but not generally used when chemical protection is required.
Heat Sealed Seam – This is a liquid-proof seam used in Level A & B Chemical protective suit
Sewn & Bound Seam – Increased durability against chemicals & particulates
Ultrasonic welded seam – Heavy duty chemical suites.
Category III coveralls are manufactured to protect against dangerous hazards. Type 5 coveralls Safety Standard: ENISO 13982-1:2004+A1:2010 provides full-body protection from airborne particles. Type 6 Safety Standard: EN 13034:2005+A1:2009 provides full-body protection against limited splash. If the suffix (B) is present ie 5B or 6B this would also signify EN 14126 protection against biological hazards.
The protective suits will be Cat III & will also include either the suffix (B) to signify EN 14126 biological protection or will have the EN 14126 safety symbol for protection against hazardous microorganisms.
